Gabriela obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Campinas, Brazil. She worked under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Paulo J. S. Moran on the thesis “Bioreductions of activated nitro alkenes and azidomethyl enones”. The project aimed at the elucidation of the enzymatic mechanism that follows the Old Yellow enzymes from Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the reduction of nitroalkenes and enones.
Gabriela received a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Universidad Central de Venezuela and an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Campinas, Brazil. Along with her studies, she has been developing projects for improving access to Latin American students with higher education. In 2016, she founded Becas.LA, a social entrepreneurship project, which consists of an online platform for divulgating in real-time fellowships and grants opportunities for Latin American students who are looking to study abroad.
Gabriela is also interested in sharing and spreading the importance of chemistry and science. More recently, she has created her website to share tips and advice for chemists who want to take their first steps with Python and Machine Learning.
In 2018, she became a member of the International Younger Chemists Network, where she volunteers as Webmaster of the organization.
